I am a certified EMDR therapist, and I specialize in working with clients who are still experiencing effects of a traumatic experience from the past. Trauma can be something that has been passed down, that you witnessed, that occurred to you, and/or didn't occur to you. Relational or non-relational trauma can continue to affect the way you experience the world, relationships with yourself and others. I utilize mindfulness and trauma-informed approaches, such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), IFS (Internal Family Systems), and somatic interventions to support your body get "unstuck" from the negative patterns you've been experiencing since the incident.

What is IFS and EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic approach that can support you reprocess memories of incident(s) that was disturbing in your life through eye movement or bi-lateral tapping interventions. The eye movements replicate the eye movements that occur during REM sleep, which activates the information processing part of the brain. This allows your brain to reprocess the disturbing incident instead of being "stuck" in your nervous system.

IFS (Internal Family Systems) is a therapeutic approach that centers on a belief that we all have parts of us that have positive intentions to help in some ways. For example, a part of you may want to order another round of drinks and a part of you may not. Parts of us may have been there for a long time and other parts may have been born after a traumatic event, such as parts that are numbing, hypervigilant, distrusting, addicted, ashamed, etc. Although it would be nice to not have some of these parts and symptoms, they may be there to help in some ways. It is difficult and sometimes re-traumatizing to completely stop some of these behaviors without knowing the intentions behind them. Through mindfulness based interventions, we will build relationships with the parts of you and support you in having a better understanding and compassion towards your whole self!
